We are living in a world where all is available on the push of a button or an app. We can Google for almost every part of our life, be it a new car, coat, house and even a soul mate. We go high-tech with so many things, are we not forgetting a few simple things that used to makes us happy?
While sipping my coffee and relaxing at home, I notice that I am very content with my surroundings, just the way they are, and I am slightly shocked about the amount of means I have within a few square feet to access the internet and get an answer to every question I might have. These moments I could surely do without a few of them, ok grant me this Ipad to write down my thoughts and put them in the open. Using tablets, pc’s the ability to write long stories on a piece of paper have disappeared. After writing a few Christmas cards my hand goes numb, when did that happen?
We say life is much simpler now, now we have every piece of information or service at the push of a button. I might actually argue that! With a friend out there in the east, on a mission, it ones again showed how nice it can be to use the old-fashioned mail system. By receiving just a simple parcel his mood changed, it helped him to think a little of home. He actually has something substantial to help him to stay in touch with the loved ones in the West. No email or a digital postcard can change that. Where we are used to switch on our electronic helper and go into the world to stay in touch, but are we really in touch? A touch: be in contact (with), come into contact (with), come together (with), meet, join, connect, converge (with), be contiguous (with), border (on), be (up) against, link up (with), adjoin, abut, neighbour
And that is just a few of them, so let’s go back to the base. Stay in touch with the ones that mean so much to us, even if this implies to have to look for stamps, wrapping paper, a small box and even what to send. Life has become too cold sometimes, and it doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg, little things used to make us happy, showed we care. Would it be back to go to that? Tonight I set my self the task to get this plan into action for myself, I can unfortunately not send all my online contacts gifts, as that would make me go bankrupt. The people on the top of the list would be a nice start and try to reach a few of them. Perhaps not every year but once, just before we completely forget what reaching out, staying in touch really means.
One more click and I think about the modern dating game, some are set for only a quick hello and drop your pants action, but don’t we almost always leave the door with the obligatory “let’s stay in touch”? Even when we hope too never have to see you, or have to experience this bad kissing episode ever again. So we have to decide where we are using one of both versions. Sometimes it seems that by using the modern applications we do have more variety but less of quality, and far less memorable situations. Sure we can have the “easy out” option, but in the end, are we not also looking for something more long lasting memory stuff? The young and the restless might not find that a much needed or desired one, but for me personally I would like to have some more “comfy” moments. Where a cuddle becomes something that creates peace and, in a way, tranquility. Might just be me, who is looking for some moments where a candle gives enough light to lighten these dark nights of the year, but also create a feeling of warmth and comfort. For a spark is also a light, and can be the beginning of something big.
Sometimes we have to go out and find this little spark of hope, of comfort, a moment where the world is that “something” outside, where the here and now are so much more. The place where a kiss brings comfort to a sometimes restless mind and hands a few minutes of pleasure, you know where the warmth of that simple something, colors your cheek and sends a satisfying pulse to the grey matter above your eyes. Where you notice it is all worth it, now would that not be a practical and good gift to send around in a box?
Let my candle just show you the way……
